Lesson 02 · Copies

Seed, real,
frozen.

Three copies of one report, open in the same program. Each has one job, and mixing them up is the commonest way to lose work.
01

Three copies, easily confused

The real projectThe report and model as plain-text project files, in Git. The only copy the agent edits. You save it only after checking a build.
The seed projectA small project with example visuals. You change it by hand; the agent only reads it. Its examples teach the file format.
The frozen exportA single .pbix file that was sent to someone. Nobody edits it. A new version is a new export.

They open in the same program and can look alike, which is exactly the danger. Before any change, check the title bar in Desktop: it names the project you're in.

02

Where do you try something?

A number on a card is cut off. You think less spacing above the value might fix it, but you're not sure how much.

Predict first: where do you try it?

Predict above to see why.

The seed and the real project answer different questions. The seed answers how Desktop writes it. The real tile, with its real text and size, answers whether it works. You can look at a change in the real project as often as you like, as long as you close it with Don't save.

Sort the jobs

Pick the copy for each job. Your score shows below.

04

The rule, in one breath

The seed teaches the format. The real project proves the effect. The export stays frozen.

Change the seed by hand and save it. Try things in the real project but save only a checked build. Never touch the export; make a new one.

Next: why a setting you change sometimes leaves the file untouched.
