Lesson 02 of 7 · Loading

Three layers. One set of tables.

In Transform data, the bronze and silver queries are in italics. That's not a style choice. It means they never reach the model.
1

Italics mean "doesn't load"

Open Home > Transform data and the bronze and silver query names are in italics. That's Power Query's way of showing that Enable load is off. Those queries still run on every refresh, because gold reads from them, but they never become tables in the model.

So the model, and anyone building a report on it, sees only gold.

If the silver queries loaded too, what would the Fields pane show?

Answer the question above to unlock this.

Enable load, by query group

Tables in the model 9

Three tables stand in for the whole model. The real model has the same pattern for every table.

2

One path, one place

Every bronze query needs to know where the workbook is. Rather than typing the path into each one, the model has a single parameter, WorkbookPath, and every bronze query reads it.

0 / 2
The workbook moves to a new folder. What do you change?
A column is added to the workbook. What has to happen before the report can use it?
The ruleStaging queries don't load. The model sees gold only, and the source path lives in one parameter.
